NB  (see below)

Hereby some photos from Hawaii that I took myself ; view from the plane window, LEI a symbol of Welcome or Farewell, Pacific beach and island in the distance, Diamond Head, coconut trees on the white sandy beach, sunset on Waikiki beach, morning sunny and green fields, Chinaman Hat island (resembling a hat), tall strong stony mountains, views along the Land Trip Tour of 10 hours, Germaine Luau etc ….

The Motto of our Reunion VII will be ”   See You all in Sunny Beautiful Hawaii …” |

Hawaii is the fiftieth State of the USA but the Islands being so tropical in nature and the sunny green clear bright views would make us think about Indonesia — country of our birth, there we spent our childhood and young years .. .for some it is nostalgia!

To the Forum members …and Interested Readers..
The MASTER LIST of the NONAGENARIAN and OCTOGENARIAN Doctors, a total of 158 names is compiled and finished!
THANKS to Wita who has made The List of the family names in alphabetical order, making it easier and convenient for us all to check and search the names we want to look for!
Hereby also THANKS to Wita, SH, HG, SB and many others (… while I started this with just 4!) who have helped to come up with the list of names thereby doing the best and efforts to remember, searching, discussing them one by one, questions and answers about the ages, then adding, deleting and changing many times before it is more or less finished now.
All interested members can check and see it here! It should be GOOD to see the names of OUR Friends, Families, Lecturers, Teachers and ALL whom we have known before in the Master List!
We are able of showing the list to all the super-agers as well…
I need to mention here that while we were working on The List, — in just a matter of 4-5 weeks — two of the Octogenarians had passed away /deceased,  but to keep and maintain the numbers in consistency we put them still in The List with the dates of their demise behind the names.  It will be done like this when there would be any changes in the future
The List is indeed a ‘living’ and dynamic list, it is and will be changing all the time ….

Dear friends,
Upon cleaning my old files, I found a very interesting, old bulletin / flyer , that I had and saved.
The Topic is very interesting about Strategies for Reducing STRESS.
As we all know , stress could be one of the contributing factors for serious health condition.
I also noticed that there is this picture of Hawaiian Luau…at the bottom left corner and I thought
is appropriate with the destination of our Medical Reunion VII in 2015.
Perhaps some of you might have seen this before.
These strategies / techniques for Reducing Stress could be worth it to pay attention to, especially
us, the seniors.
Destination Hawaii is expensive , for us, the air-fare Toronto- Oahu is about $1300.00 CAD per
person ; John & I are saving hard now to have this reunion with friends in 2015.
Hope we all are going to have a Happy Hawaiian Luau
Leny G.

Dear Leny, Dear friends,
What a beautiful interesting flyer with the topic about “Strategies for Reducing Stress …” you sent us Leny! THANKS so much!
Just the right thing for us seniors to read about stress being one of the contributing factors for health conditions … I read once that ” the PSYCHE / psycho so very much influencing the PHYSIQUE / body/ physic ” i.e. the mind having so much influence on the body seems to be so true …
I noticed the picture of Hawaii and the Luau, that I like so much especially now we are preparing and looking forward to our Reunion VII in Hawaii. Right Leny, the travel to Hawaii, the plane flights, the Cruise, the hotels, everything in Hawaii is indeed very expensive. It is said that Hawaii ( besides New York and Swiss ) might be the most expensive travel destination in the whole world !! I myself have been twice to Hawaii already but I personally like it much.
Other cruises, hotels, everything in other places are way much cheaper in comparison…! Something like a challenge for us.
Thanks Leny for the interesting topic!
Our motto is still ” See You All in Honolulu Hawaii …” ( did you say “glorious” Hawaii ?)
Greetings from Jenny

Hi Jenny & Leny G,
I totally agree with both of you that mental stress causes harmful effect to our body (psycho-somatic phenomenon). Please allow me to add in this dialogue with the following discussion. It has been shown that stress causes increase production of hormones cortisol and norepinephrine. These hormones are the mediators which cause harmful effects to our body including our immune system. In contrast what is called happy hormones are the mediators that control our mood/emotion; endorphin and serotonin.
Coping and controlling stress is just one aspect of lifestyle. For friends interested to read more about lifestyle and diet to stay healthy, I like to direct you to Dean Ornish, M.D. the founder and president of PMRI (Preventive Medicine Research Institute) in Sausalito, California .
In this digital age, we are literally inundated by all sort of news. I guarantee you that the time you spend viewing the link to PMRI below will be time well spent.
The website of PMRI: www.pmri.org/.
The website for PMRI Guided Meditations: www.ornishspectrum.com/the-ornish-spectrum-video-library.
The website for PMRI The Proven Lifestyle: www.pmri.org/lifestyle_program.html. In this website you will find that Dr Ornish and his collaborators show that the progress of early stage prostate cancers can be slowed and may be stopped and reversed by changing diet and lifestyle. And this finding may also apply to breast cancer for the interest of our female gender friends in this forum. Complete article can be found on the above website.
Be happy to stay healthy,
Tom

Hi Jenny:

She probably was the lady who made the yummy Lumpia Semarang for the TFI Hawaii in 2008, she came all the way from Maui, frying her home made frozen Lumpias at the Tjan’s residence….very ONO.

When in Jogjakarta, I would eat GUDEG, when in Rome, SPAGETTI.

Here I often see tourists eating POI, Lau Lau, and our famous Malasadas. They come to enjoy the scenery, the
weather, the good food and the CULTURE of Hawaii.

Aloha,

Memang tidak bisa harapkan masakan Indonesia SE – ENAK seperti ditempat asalnya , but it is something to get masakan Indonesia dari catering / restoran Indonesia di Maui Hawaii…. *( caterernya orang Indonesia/ CI asal Indonesia tetapi pindah ke Hawaii …buka catering masak masakan Indonesia , daripada tidak ada, banyak orang Indonesia langganannya lho ) I wonder what you were going to write …” For me when in Rome ……..” ??? Can I guess ?? I would have written here :” For me when in Rome I prefer to eat Italian food …betul makanan asli ditempat aslinya/asalnya ….”

We have posted and will post all relevant activities of the Reunion VII Committee for comments and suggestions from you. We feel that our collective experience, and wisdom will help make the Reunion VII a success…

from the Chairlady:

Dear Friends the Reunion VII Committee members,

It is still a long way to go, but the Treasurers – would like to figure out the budget of each department and estimate the total cost of the Reunion VII, thereby projecting the registration fee for participants of the 2015 Medical Reunion VII

Hereby assuming that each department have some cost/expenses, on behalf of the Treasurers , I would like each ‘ Department Head ‘ and Coordinator to make the estimated budget for running the Reunion VII according to the various programs and activities of each.

Starting now with assuming program and activities, also the assuming costs and expenses, we can proceed along the way, while adding, deleting or making changes on the program activities. Later on when we have more data on the real expenses, we could always change the figures as required.

Meanwhile can we ask each department come up with a list of their program activities requiring estimated budget of the costs at your earliest convenience and forward it to the Chair and the Treasury ?( please forward to our personal e-mails ! THANKS ! )

We are fortunate to have two excellent Professionals guiding us through this Budgeting process.. So you can be assured that all Accounting standards will be met….

If you have any other suggestions and ideas, feel free to forward it to us.
We would appreciate your input, making the process vibrant and active.

THANKS so much for all your help and commitments.

REGARDS from Jenny,

The Reunion VII Treasury has opened a new bank account by the Bank of America, signed by Jenny Nangoy and John Wangsadipura, a checking account with no interest .

Harlan THANKS for your keen observation and fair suggestion that we the new Reunion VII Committee have to move on, after being formed and the date and destination decided there is no purpose anymore of polling or survey about when or where, causing a distraction to the mission itself ! Subject: [medical-reunion] MEMORIES ….

A Note from Jenny

Our Medical Reunions have our own standpoint and our own standart and ways to do the Reunions founded by our Founder and this tradition have been kept and done for so long and hopefully for many years counting still …We are already in our Reunion VII and I hope it need not be changed merely by statements from one or two persons who do not understand …Through our history we always have a committee and have been planning our reunions for quite a long time ahead .

We have our BKK , data, photos / group photos that will be treasured for all the years ahead … so very much different than meetings ( just gatherings , chit chat , eating ….done) then nothing! …, no memories that we treasure so much …..

Our Committee consisting of committed , supportive , willing and able committee members doing our very best to make the Reunions a reality …what is wrong with this ? as long as we are pleased to do this ! no pressure of working hard it is just a wonderful good job and we are proud and happy to do it !

Subject: [medical-reunion] Call for support Reunion Seven

Now that a committee has been formed and date and destination decided, it is time to move on . A voting, polling or survey about when and where serve no purpose anymore, it is a distraction to the mission at hand. What is needed and very helpful are offers of support and volunteer for the various task. I pledge my support.

Reunion SIx treasury has a joint survivors checking account that non interest nearing at Chase Bank in the names of Nathanael Sidharta and Harlan Sutandi. Either one of us can write a check on this account and in the event of death of one of us, it automatically shift ownership to the survivor. Because it is non interest bearing, it has no income, thus not reported to the IRS.
AT present the balance is $2690.92 There are still unfinished business that Nate needs to do, once there is no more activity we will transfer the money to Reunion SEven and close the account.

My best wishes for Reunion Seven success.

Dear Friends, Hok Kan has a message for all of us and why don’t we give it serious considerations…
The message was:

Ola Friends,

Jenny Nangoy has volunteered to head a committee, and is forming a committee and program, for our reunion in 2015. This is an excellent idea and should go forward. However, if there are friends interested in organizing a reunion in 2014, that would also be a good idea. Than someone must volunteer to head that committee and come up with a program for consideration of the membership. If there is enough interest for a reunion in 2014, then we can have one next year. The main problem is finding someone willing to organize it.Best regards, Hok Kan

2014 ? The main problem is finding someone willing to organize it.

2015 see below :

As you know the Program that Jenny’s Committee had set up is as follows:

The Reunion VII will be in Hawaii in March April 2015 …it will be a total of 10 days i.e. 2-3 days in Honolulu and land trips/tours around the historical places like Pearl Harbour, museum, Waikiki Beach and other tourist destinations …then followed be a 7 nights or 8 days CRUISE around the Hawaiian Islands with landings on 4 islands there.

This program will remain the Official Reunion VII Program for 2015
The ChairLady may have some more information about this……

Hi Siang,
Since you came up with the suggestion to have a yearly gathering, I suggest that you organize it. Just do not go to Hawaii as Reunion VII in 2014 will be in Hawaii.

Dear Michael,
I completely agree with you if the Med. Reunion was an active professional medical association with mostly actively working MD members. However I think most of the membership are retired.
It seems that we are becoming more of a social relaxing club instead of an active professional association with professional conventions/reunions. However some sort of combination would be desirable, as desired by the membership.
Best regards,
Siang

Dear Medical Reunion members, I might be one of the youngest member for the Medical Reunion, however, I really enjoyed meeting everyone in the last Reunion VI.In my opinion, Medical Reunion meeting need to be done in organized fashion so every member can plan in advance to attend the meeting. Remember, I am still actively working as a doctor. I can not close my office just like that. I think, there should be a distinction between “Gathering” and “Reunion meeting”. Anybody can arrange for non-formal gathering anywhere at anytime.

These gatherings can be as frequent as every months or every week if so desired, and the participants could be only 10, 20, 30 or even 100. However, “Medical Reunion meeting” need to be a formal arranged meeting where every members can come and discuss the future of the Medical Reunion.

When I come to a Medical Reunion meeting, I am looking forward to see every members of the Medical Reunion (not just 10, 20) and to get to know everybody (not just through pictures). To have majority or all of the members to come to a meeting, we need to have an organized committee with organized activities so each members have an opportunity to get to know each other.

In addition, I think every other year meeting is enough at this time (regional gatherings can be held as often as so desired, but not a “formal business meeting”, just chat and eating together).

Sincerely, Michael Darmadi.

Dear Jenny:

Thank you so much for your warm welcome. My husband, Sofjan, and I are tempted to go to the reunion in Hawaii. We often go to the ITB group gatherings, but since I am not from the ITB, we have only gone to one reunion. We know the ITB group from our 40+ years in So Cal.

I do hope to be able to meet some old friends and acquaintances from the Jakarta Ta Hsueh/Perhimi group at the Reunion VII in Hawaii. Probably won’t recognize them and they probably won’t recognize me, as what happened when we met Paula and Kian Tjong at the anniversay or their aunt and uncle….:-( Before that, we had met Paula and Tjong in 1992 at a wedding and we still recognized each other! :-)

It is quite an undertaking to organize a reunion. So many details…. We wish you good luck! We will be following the notices.

Greetings,

Flora and Sofjan

Hallo ,
For sure I am pleased and happy if you want to introduce me to Floor !
And hereby I want to invite you all to join the REUNION VII in Hawaii in March 2015 , still two years from now , but we ( the committee members and I need to make all the needed preparations, still a long way to go that I hope to make this Reunion VII a reality, a success and a memorable one ! I read here that all of you will be meeting each other …old friends from long ago — (some we have not met for 56 years ago or more) also making new friends! That is what reunions are for ! We can be so happy and excited being together, talking reminiscing old memories …that time when we were students on college and now we are grandparents talking about our grandchildren …
Come up ! I hope there will be more participants ” the more the merrier ” all going to beautiful sunny Hawaii !!!
The reunion will be for 10 days , 2-3 days in Honolulu and land trip tours to historical sites Pearl Harbour etc , museum , beach and other tourists destinations, followed by a 7 nights 8 days CRUISE around the Hawaiian Islands with landings on 4 islands there…

Hi Jenny & Johannes,

I guess annual Medical Reunion is a good idea. The challenge is the availability of volunteers to take the helm; unless, we can enroll younger generations.

It is not compulsory for the members of Medical-Reunion group to join every Medical Reunion event. They can choose which one to join from.

It is my two cents of opinion.

Cheers,

This is an early opinion before voting, normally (it is for me) we do a vacation once a year, If we do a yearly Medical Reunion, than we can not plan another vacation unless we ditch the reunion and have a vacation our self in another place.

Dear Friends,
In vieuw that there are voices raising questions whether to do the Reunions once every year instead of once in two years (every other year) and just to remember that we have a membership and our opinion counts, we are of an opinion to do it in a fair and frank way i.e do the VOTING .
Soon there will a voting mechanism that each and everyone of us will make our voices heard and be counted whether our REUNION VII will be held in 2014 or 2015. The location is in Hawaii (more or less decided for sure)
I hope each and everyone of us will participate in our VOTING process !
This is the preliminary/prior of the voting … to make you attentive of what will be held very soon !
THANKS for your attention!

Hello everyone,

I do agree with the suggestion from Siang Tan to hold the Reunion every year as opposed to once every 2 years, if we can.

We are all getting older and it seems no holding back our ages : the current mode is :” maju terus, pantang mundur ” alias maju terus, tambah umur..

It feels that time ( that we have now ) is so precious and what more then to spend our time to see our friends ( local and global friends ), spend time with them ( through the Reunions ) , of course besides that , priorities are with our own families, loved ones.

Dear Jenny and all our good friends,

Do you want to have your reunion celebrated more often than every two years? May be once a year??.

The reason I am suggesting this to you and the other members is my experience in dealing with our local “ITB and Friends” Club (bimonthly), Bible Study Groups (monthly), Church (Bible, Rosary, etc., weekly) Groups, Birthday Dinner Groups (monthly),Lansia (monthly) etc., etc. The members of these groups often want to meet more often. It is not only that they want to see each other more often, but also that they want to see their friends still alive instead of just going to their funeral or hospital. Remember, we are not going to live forever, let’s meet before it is too late !!

Just observe the frequency history of the TFI Reunion….. TFI used to have their reunion once in 3 years (1987 – 2002), then once in 2 years (2004-2010), and now it is one a year ( 2010 until now!). And TFI is a world wide reunion, members come from the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Indonesia, Brazil, Germany, etc., etc.

Again, let’s meet each others more often before it is too late !!!

Have a nice Sunday ,
